A Delicious Pinot Noir

Good Day from The Caviste

As we dig or melt our way out from all of the snow, the holidays continue to creep closer. In the spirit of the holidays, we have a couple of great wines, a delicious sparkler and a fantastic Pinot Noir. In addition, we have a great in store tasting this Friday and a rare event on Monday to explore the wine, food and travel opportunities in Bordeaux.

Gorgeous, Classic, Delicious Red Burgundy

Santenay, as a region, lies at the southern tip of the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy. It is a spa center as well as a center for wine. The domains land has a lot of limestone, but like Santenay as a whole, they focus on red wine production, over 95%. The limestone under the loamy soil gives their wines an elegance and finesse that makes them approachable when young.

Domaine de la Chapelle produces a classic Pinot Noir from its property. The wine is rather bold on the attack for a Burgundy, with some weight and character to it. The dark and brilliant black-cherry color leads to lovely aromatics where rose petal and violet intermingle with dried red currants and black raspberry and wild strawberries. These fruit notes continue on the palate and finish with a fine textured but well structured finish that compels one to have another sip.

This wine is a great choice for the adventuresome cook as it will pair nicely with glazed chicken preparations but also those with Asian influences where 5 spice and other flavors pick up some of the nuances in the wine. On top of it all, this is a fantastic Burgundy value at $28 a bottle. As a holiday gift for this wine, we will give 10% off if you buy 2 or more, 15% by the case. (Note: this is the Village wine but the distributor will be getting Premier Crus wines in next year.)
